PROCESS

This WebQuest is for NSW Preliminary Year (Year 11) Modern History students doing the Civil Rights Movement option. This WebQuest is designed to take 8 weeks with 2-3 lessons per week spent on the webquest.

Tasks will cover:

  1. Background information on slavery, racism and state of civil rights in the USA prior to 1950.
  2. Four dot points of the syllabus:
  • Segregation in the US in the 1950s
  • Martin Luther King and the use of non-violence to achieve civil rights
  • The development of more radical methods and individuals in the 1960s
  • Achievements of the Civil Rights Movement

    Scenario

    This WebQuest is located in a small town in Alabama. Here is a map of the USA with Alabama down south near the Gulf of Mexico, shown above in dark mauve between Mississippi and Georgia.
